Every year, the Swedish Institute (a government body) awards about 500 scholarships to students and researchers who come to Sweden to pursue their goals at a Swedish institution.
The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships are intended for highly qualified students from the following 12 developing countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
The Karlstad University Global Scholarship program is designed for outstanding academic students from countries other than the European Union/European Economic Area (including Switzerland) who are obliged to pay tuition for their studies.
The Karlstad University Global Scholarship covers tuition expenses in part or in whole. Only if the application fee is paid or if you are exempt from paying the application fee will your scholarship application be considered.

keeping the scholarship
- – Scholarship winners who were funded for a two-year program but are later admitted to one-year programs in the same topic can finish the second term while still earning the scholarship.
- – Scholarship holders who are accepted to a one-year program after receiving funding for a two-year program lose their access to financing for the third and fourth terms.
- – Scholarship winners who obtained money for a two-year program must have completed 60 credits in the educational program for which the scholarship was provided prior to the third term in order for the possible increase in funding to occur.
Application instructions:
- Scholarships are awarded upon the completion of the program selection procedure. Students with outstanding academic achievement and strong dedication and desire to study at Karlstad University will be given priority.
- The scholarship is only available for programs beginning in the autumn semester. A scholarship offer is only applicable for the year and program specified in the scholarship notice. If the student is given postponement until the next school year, the scholarship offer is void. Because scholarships are program-specific, if a student who has been given one changes programs, the student risks losing the scholarship.
