About the Role

The Recruiter is responsible for the majority of the administrative duties associated with the recruitment of contract and full-time faculty (including participating in contract member hiring interviews, following up with references, and generating sessional contracts), the reappointment of contract faculty, contract employee performance reviews, and the maintenance of the list of active contract instructors for the School of Nursing and Midwifery which includes four programs: Advanced Studies in Critical Care Nursing, Bachelor of Midwifery, Bachelor of Nursing and Bridge to Canadian Nursing. The Recruiter is also responsible for drafting postings. The Recruiter is expected to take a leading role in collaborating with the Course Coordinators, the Clinical Resource Nurse, the Program Coordinators, the Assistant Chair Administrative Support, and the Chair and members of the Standing Committee for Sessional Appointment in accomplishing the work of recruitment and hiring.

Responsibilities

    • In collaboration with others in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, email a list of available course sections to all eligible contract faculty.
    • Receive contract faculty’s expression of interest to teach in upcoming terms.
    • Communicate eligible hires to the appropriate hiring or reappointment committee.
    • On the direction and on behalf of the Chair, contact contract faculty regarding offers for reappointment or hire and receives confirmation or refusal from contract faculty.
    • If no eligible contract faculty respond, collaborate with the Chair to advertise the vacancy using the appropriate media.
    • Maintain current Contract Faculty contact information.
    • Assist Course and Program Coordinators in replacing Contract Faculty as needed during the term.
    • Maintain a list of sessional instructors requiring peer review and work with the Chair to organize the reviews.
    • Collate SPoT data for sessional employees and mail out response letters from the Assistant Chair.
    • Assist the Chair in recruitment of fulltime faculty.
    • Participate in fulltime faculty interviews and complete documents as requested by the Chair.
    • Perform reference checks as directed by the Chair.
    • Collect CVs and complete preliminary screening of candidates in accordance with the School of Nursing and Midwifery selection criteria for initial hiring of contract faculty.
    • Distribute accepted CVs to appropriate Course Coordinators and Program Coordinators as needed.
    • In collaboration with the Course and Program Coordinators, organize interviews and provide candidates with appropriate information and documents prior to interview. Participate in interviews when possible.
    • Perform reference checks as directed by Course and Program Coordinators.
    • Communicate eligible hires to the appropriate hiring or reappointment committee.
    • On behalf of the Chair, contact successful and unsuccessful candidates and provide appropriate information.
    • Under the direction of the Dean/Director and the Standing Committee for Sessional Appointments, generate contracts for Contract Faculty for reappointments and new hires.
    • Communicate clinical placement information to the appropriate parties for scheduling, HSP net, and community partners.
    • Member and advisor on three committees related to hiring and reappointment

 

Qualifications

    • Minimum three or four year bachelor’s degree or equivalent
    • Minimum 12 to 18 months previous related experience
    • HR diploma or a related field
    • Proven comprehensive understanding of recruitment processes
    • Demonstrated knowledge of collective agreements and Human Rights Act as it relates to hiring
    • Strong customer service focus: ability to maintain effective relations with all internal stakeholders and potential employees
    • Well-developed communication skills
    • Ability to manage multiple and changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent organizational skills
