The Canadian government has always provided scholarship opportunities for international students. This year, there are over 50 scholarship opportunities that will be awarded to qualified students. Government of Canada Scholarships Provided for International Students who have met all the requirements.
Students who have shown good academic performance or have proven that they have no funds or financial support to sponsor their studies in Canada. If you are interested in studying in Canada, then consider applying for 2 or three of the scholarships listed on this page.
Ontario Graduate Scholarships:
OGS are made available in partnership with the Canadian government and participating institutions.
International students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees at select universities.
The total scholarship award is 15,000 CAD/year.
Eligibility
- By the commencement date of the PhD program, the applicant must have obtained a temporary residence visa as a member of the student class under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada).
- During the period of the OTS award, the candidate must maintain satisfactory progress in their degree program.
- Even if the winner achieves permanent residency after the start of the first term of study, the Ontario Trillium Scholarship will be renewed.
- Must not hold any other scholarship or fellowship, such as Tri-Council, i.e., Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), or MTCU, i.e., Manitoba Teachers’ College.
- The candidate must be a foreign student.
- At the time of application, the applicant must be fluent in English.
- The candidate must not be a current undergraduate or graduate student at any Ontario post-secondary institution.
- In two years of full-time study, the candidate must have an 8.0/10 or A-average (the Ontario equivalent of 80%).
- The applicant must intend to enroll in a full-time doctoral-level degree-granting graduate program.

Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship:
Offered to deserving students from Commonwealth nations pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees at Canadian institutions. The scholarship includes tuition, living costs, and a travel allowance.
What are the Documents Required for Commonwealth Scholarship?
While applying for Commonwealth scholarship and fellowship, one must keep the following mentioned documents handy:
- Academic transcripts
- Two Letters of Recommendation
- Supporting statement by the applicant’s supervisor from at least one educational institution on this list
- A valid passport and its scanned copy
- Proof of citizenship
What are the Eligibility Requirements?
Candidates must be eligible for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship. More information is provided below:
Masters
- The applicant must be a permanent Commonwealth citizen.
- He or she should not be older than 40 years old.
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 60% in Humanities and Social Sciences. They must, however, have obtained a 65% in Engineering, Technology, Science, and Agriculture.
- Applicants must have completed a tertiary English education.
- They must provide evidence of English competence.
- Applicants who have previously been overseas for training, specialization, or completion of studies, whether through a scholarship or their own finances, are allowed to apply, but they must have lived in India for at least two years after returning from abroad.
Ph.D.
- The applicant must be a permanent Commonwealth citizen.
- Applicants must be under the age of 40.
- Candidates must have a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree. Furthermore, they must have received 60% in Humanities and Social Sciences. They must also have a 65% in Engineering, Technology, Science, and Agriculture.
- They must have received an acceptance letter from a university supervisor. It must be brought with you to the interview.

Quebec Provincial Government Scholarship:
Financial assistance is available to master’s students enrolled in Quebec Canadian universities. Awards are given based on merit. Doctoral students are paid 25,000 CAD per year, whereas postdoctoral students are paid 35,000 CAD per year.

Government of Canada Scholarships for Undergraduates
The scholarship is worth CAD 10,200 or CAD 12,700, depending on the length of study, and the money should be used for:
- Fees for a visa or a study/work permit;
- Airfare for the scholarship winner exclusively on the shortest and most cost-effective route;
- Health coverage;
- Living expenditures, such as rent, utilities, and food;
- Transit on the ground, including a public transportation pass; and
- Books and materials needed for the recipient’s studies or research, excluding computers and other technology.
Applicants must be:
- Citizens of one of the following countries/territories are eligible:
- Asia includes Bangladesh, Nepal, and Taiwan.
- Europe includes Turkey and Ukraine.
- Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia are among the countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
- Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda; and
- Enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary institution in a qualifying country/territory and paying tuition to that institution at the time of application and throughout the exchange.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS)
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) was established to attract and maintain world-class PhD candidates, as well as to position Canada as a global leader in research and higher education.
VCS assists students in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high level of scholarly achievement.
The scholarship is worth $50,000 per year for three years and is open to both Canadian and international PhD students pursuing their degrees at Canadian universities.

Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program
The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants from both the United States and around the world who will positively contribute to the country’s economic, social, and research-based growth.
The program is available for researchers who have successfully finished a PhD, PhD-equivalent, or medical professional degree. The prizes are two-year fellowships, valued $70,000 per year (taxable) for a total award of $140,000. Seventy fellowships will be granted each year.

Canada Graduate Scholarships (Master’s Program)
The CGS M Program provides financial support to high-calibre scholars who are engaged in eligible master’s or, in some cases, doctoral programs in Canada. This support allows these scholars to fully concentrate on their studies in their chosen fields.
The CGS M Program supports up to 2,500 students annually in all disciplines and is administered jointly by Canada’s three federal granting agencies: CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC.
To be eligible to apply, you must:
- be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
- be enrolled in, have applied for, or will apply for full-time admission* to an eligible graduate program at the master’s or doctoral level at a Canadian institution with a CGS M allocation;
- respect the internal deadline to apply for admission for your intended program of study. Contact the Faculty of Graduate Studies (or its equivalent) at the selected Canadian institution(s) for more detailed information;
- have completed, as of December 31 of the year of application, between zero and 12 months of full-time studies (or full-time equivalent)
