What Does It Mean to Be Sponsored By an Employer? Sponsorship can mean different things to different people, but in general, sponsorship means an arrangement between an employer and a third party, such as a marketing or advertising agency, under which the employer pays the agency for services rendered.
The third party then uses its own resources (namely staff and facilities) to promote the employer’s products or services. In return for these promotional efforts, the employer may expect certain benefits from the relationship, such as increased sales or better relations with employees.
To be Sponsored by an employer in Canada for work or studies in Canada, you need to have a valid work or study permit in Canada, and your employer needs to be registered with the Service Canada immigration agency. Once your sponsorship is approved, the Service Canada immigration agency will issue you an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) that you will carry with you while working or studying in Canada.
